West Virginia freshman Robby Porco was named the Big 12 Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week after an excellent performance in the first Big 12 start of his career against Kansas. He shared the honor with Kansas State sophomore Tyson Neighbors.
Porco helped the Mountaineers get a win in their series against Kansas on Sunday. The right-handed pitcher struck out 12 Jayhawk batters in six innings, which is the most strikeouts for a WVU pitcher this season. He also allowed just two runs, only one of which was earned, on just three hits during the game.
Porco joins graduate student Blaine Traxel as the second Mountaineer this year to be named conference Pitcher of the Week. Porco is also the first WVU freshman pitcher to win the weekly award since the team joined the Big 12 in the spring of 2013.
