Jackson Wolf and the 8-seed West Virginia Mountaineers knocked off top seed (and #2 ranked) Texas Longhorns 5-1 in the first round of the double elimination tournament. West Virginia will play the winner of the Bedlam game (Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State) tomorrow at 7:30 PM.
West Virginia got on the board early when Hudson Byorick sent a solo homerun over the left field wall to put WVU up 1-0 in the 2nd inning.

In the fifth inning Tyler Doanes hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, and Texas threw a wild pitch and suddenly West Virginia was in the driver’s seat 3-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, starting pitcher Jackson Wolf recorded his 100th strikeout on the season.
In the top of the ninth, Kevin Brophy hit a triple, scoring a run and then Brophy himself would come home on a wild pitch giving the Mountaineers their fifth run of the game. That would be all Wolf would need as he completed the gem with a complete game.

West Virginia has twice played for a Big 12 Championship, once in 2016 and the last time Big 12 Championship was played, in 2019. West Virginia lost both times in the championship game.
