West Virginia hosts TCU for second meeting this season

The #6 West Virginia men’s basketball team is looking for an important bounce back victory when it hosts TCU tonight in Morgantown. In the first meeting between WVU and the Horned Frogs, the Mountaineers held on for a crucial road victory, 74-66. WVU head coach Bob Huggins thought that his team performed well but let off the gas at times.

After another narrow loss, WVU pivots to Thursday game vs. TCU

Four of West Virginia’s five losses in Big 12 play have come by five points or less. The Mountaineers lost by four at Oklahoma after overcoming an 18-point deficit, on a buzzer-beating three against Texas, by a point in double overtime to the Sooners, and by five in overtime to league champion Baylor.

Huggins following loss to Baylor: ‘We can’t let one loss turn into three’

Following the loss to #3 Baylor, the #6 West Virginia men’s basketball team will play two more games this week, hosting TCU tonight and #17 Oklahoma State on Saturday to end the regular season. WVU head coach Bob Huggins does not want the one loss to the Bears to lead to three losses this week.

Huggins ‘not caught up on that other stuff’ as he nears 900 victories

With two games remaining in the regular season for the #6 West Virginia men’s basketball team, head coach Bob Huggins has an opportunity to become just the sixth head coach in men’s college basketball history to reach 900 career wins.

TCU Next in WVU’s Rapid-Fire Regular Season Finish

#6 West Virginia’s rapid-fire ending to the regular season resumes tonight when the #6 Mountaineers host TCU. The Horned Frogs are 12-11, with a 5-9 record in Big 12 play, and are coming off a 69-49 loss at #18 Texas Tech on Tuesday night.

Osabuohien adding defensive expertise to WVU roster

During the 2020-21 West Virginia men’s basketball season, senior forward Gabe Osabuohien has dominated on the defensive end of the court. Osabuohien is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game, and has 32 steals this season along with 10 blocks.

In a mentally exhausting game, the #6 West Virginia men’s basketball team did not pull off a remarkable upset against #3 Baylor on Tuesday night. Despite being highly competitive, the Mountaineers are now 0-4 against top five teams this season.

NCAA-bound for first time since 2017, WVU women seek strong push in March

Regardless of what happens over the next two weeks, the #20 West Virginia women’s basketball team is bound for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017. With an 18-4 record and a dozen wins in Big 12 play, the Mountaineers could very well climb into a #4 seed or better in the field of 64 with a solid finish to the season.

Carey named a semifinalist for Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year

West Virginia women’s basketball coach Mike Carey has been named a semifinalist for the Werner Ladder Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year award. Carey is one of 10 coaches selected as a semifinalist for the honor and is the only coach from the Big 12 Conference.

West Virginia Ranks No. 23 in Coaches Poll

The West Virginia women’s basketball team checked in at #23 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. WVU is one of two Big 12 teams featured in this week’s poll, with Baylor at #6.

Mountaineers women’s soccer debuts at No. 7 in spring rankings

The West Virginia women’s soccer team checked in at #7 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s National Poll. The Mountaineers continue to sit inside the poll’s top 10 in its first edition of the spring after being ranked in the top 10 during all 10 weeks of the fall. WVU finished 7-2 in its conference-only fall schedule and reopens regular-season action on Sunday, when it travels to Saint Joseph’s.

WVU tennis defeats Youngstown State to improve to 2-0

The West Virginia tennis team improved to 2-0 after defeating Youngstown State by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. WVU head coach Miha Lisac was glad that his team could learn before conference matches next weekend. Before conference play, the Mountaineers will host VCU on Friday.

WVU gymnastics ranks No. 25 on floor

The West Virginia gymnastics team ranks #25 on floor exercise in this week’s Road to Nationals Rankings. As a team, the Mountaineers rank #7 in the Southeast Region. WVU also sits at #4 on floor, #6 on balance beam, #7 on vault, and #7 on the uneven bars in the region.

Mountaineers conclude springboard events at Big 12s

The West Virginia men’s and women’s diving teams placed four divers in the men’s three-meter finals and two divers in the women’s one-meter finals at the 2021 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship on Tuesday.

Flynn on Big 12 Championships: ‘I think last year showed us tomorrow is not guaranteed’

As the NCAA wrestling season winds down, West Virginia will head to Oklahoma to compete in the Big 12 Championships. WVU head coach Tim Flynn believes that last year’s adversity showed his team that nothing is guaranteed.

The pairings for the 2021 Big 12 Wrestling Championship, set for March 6th and 7th, have been announced. The Mountaineers, who finished 10th at the 2020 Big 12 Championship, have five wrestlers seeded inside the top six of their respective weight classes.

Spring slate for WVU volleyball announced

West Virginia’s spring volleyball schedule has been released. The Mountaineers, who finished 8-8 during their conference-only fall slate, return to action with four total contests, leading up to this spring’s NCAA Tournament.

WVU baseball pauses team activities, four home games postponed

After a 4-3 start to the season, the West Virginia baseball team has halted team activities for the next seven days due to COVID-19 protocols.

Edwards helps No. 18 Texas Tech roll to 68-49 win over TCU

Junior guard Kyler Edwards scored 17 of his season-high 20 points in the first half to help #18 Texas Tech take control, and the Red Raiders rolled to a 69-49 victory over TCU on Tuesday night. Junior guard RJ Nembhard led the Horned Frogs with 10 points and two assists.
