WVU RB Sinkfield enters transfer portal
West Virginia redshirt junior running back Alec Sinkfield has entered the transfer portal. In three seasons with the WVU football team, Sinkfield only rushed for a total of 436 yards and four touchdowns.
Men’s Basketball
With challenging slate on the horizon, WVU visits 2-win Iowa State Tuesday
It is critical for #17 West Virginia to secure a victory over a struggling Iowa State team, particularly because of what lies ahead in their six games that follow. After their visit to Ames, Bob Huggins’ team will host #23 Kansas, visit #13 Texas Tech, host #9 Oklahoma, face #2 Baylor in a home-and-home set, and visit #6 Texas. Those games are scheduled to be played in a span of fifteen days.
Culver Named to Abdul-Jabbar Award Final 10
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the Top 10 candidates for the 2021 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award. West Virginia forward Derek Culver was selected as one of the 10 candidates. The annual honor is in its seventh year and recognizes the top centers in men’s college basketball.
No. 17 West Virginia Looks to Bounce Back at Iowa State Tuesday Night
Iowa State is coming off a 39-point defeat at Mississippi State in its SEC/Big 12 Challenge game. The Cyclones are now 2-9 and have not won since defeating Jackson State in December. The first time these two teams met earlier this year, West Virginia needed some late-game heroics from Taz Sherman to pull out a 70-65 win.

The #17 West Virginia men’s basketball team is looking for a major bounce-back victory on Tuesday night against Iowa State following its upset loss to Florida over the weekend. WVU had a very poor scoring performance against the Gators, shooting 40% from the floor and 29% from three-point range.

A lot of movement this week in the AP Top 25, including a six-ranking drop for the West Virginia men’s basketball team. The Mountaineers check in at #17 this week in the poll. Last week, WVU defeated Texas Tech by one and fell to Florida by five. The Gators moved up to #22 following the upset.
Capacity Increase Planned for Feb. 6
West Virginia University and its Department of Intercollegiate Athletics plan to increase capacity in the WVU Coliseum to 1,500 spectators, when the Mountaineer men’s basketball team hosts Kansas on Saturday. Because of the limited capacity, there will not be a public sale of tickets.
Huggins on loss: ‘When the shots don’t go in you are not going to win.’
On Saturday, the #17 West Virginia men’s basketball team lost to Florida 85-80. WVU head coach Bob Huggins said, “As poorly as we shot the ball, it is amazing we were even in the game as long as we were in the game.” Despite some Mountaineers shooting poorly, forward Derek Culver scored a career-high 28 points.
Florida Rallies to Defeat West Virginia Saturday at the Coliseum
Colin Castleton scored 21 points to lead the Florida men’s basketball team to an 85-80 come-from-behind victory over West Virginia in the Big 12/SEC Challenge at the WVU Coliseum on Saturday.

No. 24 West Virginia wins eighth straight against TCU
The #24 West Virginia women’s basketball team defeated TCU on the road, 79-70, to extend its win streak to eight games. Kysre Gondrezick led the Mountaineers in points with 30, on 9-of-17 shooting from the field. The redshirt senior also dished out nine assists and shot perfect from the free-throw line on 10 attempts.
ESPN recognizes WVU women’s basketball as squad climbs in AP poll
The West Virginia women’s basketball team moved up three spots to #21 in the latest Associated Press Top-25 Poll. The Mountaineers are one of two Big 12 teams to be ranked this week, with Baylor moving up to #8. WVU also was named the “Women’s Basketball Team of the Week” by ESPN.
Big 12 tabs Gondrezick as Player of the Week
West Virginia redshirt senior guard Kysre Gondrezick was tabbed the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Gondrezick averaged 27 points per game in a pair of wins at Texas Tech and TCU, thanks to a career-high 30 points in the TCU game. This award is Gondrezick’s first of her career.

No. 4 WVU rifle close out weekend with victory
The #4 West Virginia rifle team won Sunday’s match against #3 Ole Miss 4737-4713 by scoring a season high in points. The Mountaineers recorded a season-high in the smallbore portion of the competition with a score of 2351. WVU is now 7-0, with just one regular season match remaining.
Eddy Breaks WVU Smallbore Record
Junior Jared Eddy matched the West Virginia school record in smallbore after he shot a 595 in the #4 Mountaineers’ win over #3 Ole Miss on Saturday. He also tied the smallbore standing record with a 199.

After matching the team’s smallbore record with a career-high score of 595, junior Jared Eddy of the West Virginia rifle team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week.

Floor Exercise Lineup Nationally Ranked
The #30 West Virginia gymnastics team continues to rank in the top 25 of the Road to Nationals Rankings on floor exercise. The Mountaineers are #24 on floor. WVU sits just outside the top 25 on balance beam at #27 and ranks #33 on uneven bars. The Mountaineers are also ranked #35 on vault.
West Virginia Tabbed Sixth in Big 12 Poll
The #14 West Virginia baseball team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2021 Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll. Texas Tech was tabbed to win the Big 12 for the fourth consecutive season. TCU was selected to finish in second place, while Texas was picked to finish third in the conference.
WVU wrestling upsets No. 17 Northern Colorado
The West Virginia wrestling team earned its first Big 12 win of the season on Sunday against #17 Northern Colorado. The 25-11 victory was also the first win over a ranked opponent for the Mountaineers this season. WVU returns to action on Saturday against Wyoming, Air Force, and Fresno State.
Brewster Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
Junior defender Jordan Brewster of the West Virginia women’s soccer team has been named to the 2020-21 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List. Brewster lands on the list for the first time in her career after being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Mountaineers Open Spring Season
The West Virginia track and field team opened its spring season with a competition at the Thundering Herd Invitational, hosted by Marshall on Saturday. The meet was highlighted by four Mountaineer first-place wins.
West Virginia gymnastics drops meet to No. 3 OU
The West Virginia gymnastics team fell to #3 Oklahoma after a close match Sunday, 195.850-194.625. Despite their many faults in the events, the Sooners came out on top in all four events, including vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.
Mountaineers drop final regular season meet on senior day
On senior day at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, the West Virginia women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams both suffered losses to #18 Notre Dame, 244-127 and 271-82, respectively.

Hostetler reflects on 30-year anniversary of Super Bowl XXV
