West Virginia drops in AP Poll after loss to Florida

The Mountaineers fall out of the top fifteen, but will have the opportunity to gain some of that back this week.

The West Virginia Mountaineers dropped to No. 17 in this week’s AP men’s basketball poll, after splitting the week with a win over the then No. 10 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders adn a loss on Saturday to the Florida Gators in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.

The Mountaineers come in fifth among the six Big 12 teams that appear in the poll this week, with the Baylor Bears remaining ahead of the pack once again at No. 2 behind the top-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs. Texas fell one spot to No. 6, while the Oklahoma Sooners made a huge leap from No. 24 into the top ten at No. 9. Texas Tech dropped three spots to No. 13, and Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks took a tumble of their own from No. 15 to No. 23.

West Virginia will have the opportunity to climb back a couple spots, as they’ll take on Iowa State in Ames tomorrow night, and will host the Jayhawks in Morgantown on Saturday.
