- This will be the 21st meeting between West Virginia and Texas Tech with WVU leading 14-6. The Mountaineers have won 11 of the last 16 meetings in the series. Last season, WVU won in Morgantown, 66-54, while the Red Raiders won in Lubbock, 89-81.
- West Virginia is 7-1 against Texas Tech in Morgantown. Tech’s lone win in Morgantown took place on Jan. 2, 2019.
- The first meeting took place in the NCAA Sweet 16 on March 24, 2005, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. WVU defeated the Red Raiders, 65-60. WVU then narrowly lost in overtime to Louisville two days later for a spot in the Final Four.

PREDICTION THAT WILL BE WRONG
This game is crucial for West Virginia’s success as the season goes on, because it’s the first of a nine game meatgrinder of a schedule that spans the next 26 days. The Mountaineers need to start this thing off with a strong win at home, or else things could head south fairly quick.
Blind optimism is telling me West Virginia wins in a nail-biter, but I’m prepared for the worst.
