GAME NOTES

  • The 2020 season marks West Virginia’s 128th season of football. The Mountaineers are the 15th winningest program in college football.
  • WVU is 5-1 in games played on Sept. 12. The last time WVU played on Sept. 12 was against Liberty in 2012 (W 41-17).
  • Defensive lineman Darius Stills was named a preseason All-American, was a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team honoree and the Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and made an appearance on the Outland, Nagurski and Bednarik Award watch lists.
  • Darius and Dante Stills led WVU in sacks (7) in 2019 and were tied for No. 2 in the Big 12. Darius had 14.5 tackles for loss and Dante had 11.5, ranking No. 5 and No. 10 in the conference
  • Also named to preseason All-Big 12 teams were Josh Chandler-Semedo (LB), James Gmiter (OL), Sam James (WR), Sean Mahone (DB), T.J. Simmons (WR), Tykee Smith (DB), Dante Stills (DL) and Darius Stills (DL)
  • Quarterback Jarett Doege played in the final four games of the 2019 season after transferring from Bowling Green. He led WVU to two wins in the final three games, completing 79-of-120 passes for 818 yards and seven touchdowns.
  • West Virginia’s offense returns 16 players who have started at least one game in their Mountaineer career, including 13 players who earned their first start at WVU in 2019.
  • West Virginia’s defense returns 12 players who have started at least one game in their Mountaineer career, including 10 players who earned their first start at WVU in 2019.
