The Big 12 Conference announced today that West Virginia football’s season opener on Saturday, Sept. 12, against Eastern Kentucky will kick off at noon EDT from Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown. The game will be broadcast on FS1, which is a nice change compared to games against FCS opponents in previous years.
The University decided in August that Mountaineer fans will not be allowed inside the stadium for this game.

Though fans won’t be allowed in stands for the home opener, it will be easier to find on TV for Mountaineers in West Virginia and beyond. The major network coverage for the 2020 opener is very much due to reduced football games this fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences to postpone fall sports.
Last year’s home opener was a 20-13 win over James Madison. That game started at 2:05 p.m. and was broadcast on AT&T Sportsnet.
For schools located so close to each other (just a five hour drive), this will be the first game against the Mountaineers and Colonels in football. Walt Wells is entering his first season as the head coach of the Colonels, and has never faced WVU as a head coach before.
