Stills brothers named to Nagurski, Outland trophy watch lists

West Virginia’s Darius and Dante Stills have both been named to the watch lists for the Outland and Bronko Nagurski trophies. The Outland Trophy is awarded to the top interior lineman in the country, and the Nagurski Trophy is given to the best defensive player in the nation. WVU is the only team to have multiple players on the Outland Trophy watch list. Darius was also recently named the Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Report: Shane Lyons petitioned NCAA Board of Governors for “patient approach” regarding fall championships

West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons wrote a letter on behalf of the Football Oversight Committee to the NCAA Board of Governors advocating for a “patient approach” ahead of the board’s Friday meeting.

CBS Sports’ Parrish High on Mountaineers

Add CBS Sports college basketball writer Gary Parrish to the list of those touting West Virginia this season. Parrish has the Mountaineers ranked #12 in his Updated Preseason Top 25. He believes that Bob Huggins is coming into this season with an accomplished roster good enough to compete for a Big 12 title.

WVU Coliseum Seating Project Progressing Nicely

Work on the replacement of the lower-level seating inside the WVU Coliseum is nearing completion. All 14,000 seats in the 50-year-old arena will be replaced by the end of the summer. When the project is finished, the new seats with a darker shade of blue will match the current color scheme in the arena.

Riggs Welcomes 18 to 2020-21 Recruiting Class

West Virginia swimming and diving coach Vic Riggs has announced the addition of 18 student-athletes to the men’s and women’s rosters for the upcoming season. The new class features nine new Mountaineers on the men’s team and nine on the women’s roster. One newcomer is set to join the diving team, while the 17 others will be added to the swimming rosters.

WVU Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

For the fourth straight year, the West Virginia volleyball team was named as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season.

Zarbnisky inks pro deal with Philadelphia Phillies

After his four-year career with the West Virginia men’s basketball program ended earlier this year, guard Chase Harler is heading overseas. Harler has announced that he has signed a professional contract with Palangos Kuršiai in Lithuania.

Bronko Nagurski, Outland Trophy Watch Lists Revealed

The Big 12 had a combined 18 honorees on the Bronko Nagurski and Outland Trophy preseason watch lists. West Virginia’s Dante and Darius Stills were named to both lists. Five Big 12 players have previously won the Nagurski Award, while three of the conference’s players have won the Outland Trophy in past years. Iowa State, TCU, and Texas also had two players named to the Nagurski watch list.

Specialists on Lou Groza, Ray Guy Awards Preseason Lists

The Big 12 has three kickers on the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award watch list and three punters on the watch list for the Ray Guy Punter Award. Oklahoma kicker Gabe Brkic, Texas Tech’s Trey Wolff, and Kansas State’s Blake Lynch are on the Groza watch list. Texas Tech’s Austin McNamara, Kansas punter Kyle Thompson, and Ryan Bjcevski of Texas made the Guy watch list.
