More Preseason Accolades For WVU’s Stills

West Virginia’s Darius Stills continues to receive preseason accolades. Phil Steele Magazine listed the senior defensive lineman on its Preseason Defensive All-American Third Team. Stills and sophomore wide receiver Sam James were also named to Steele’s Preseason Big 12 First Team.

Mountaineers land 6-foot-11 big man with open scholarship

The West Virginia men’s basketball team has filled its final open scholarship. Seny Ndiaye, a 6’11” forward from Huntington Prep, has signed with the Mountaineers and will enroll this summer. Ndiaye is the third forward of the WVU’s 2020 class, joining Taj Thweatt and Isaiah Cottrell.

Culver, McCabe and Matthews Jr. recognized in NABC Honors Court

Three Mountaineers from the West Virginia men’s basketball team have been honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for their work in the classroom. Juniors Derek Culver, Emmitt Matthews Jr. and Jordan McCabe were named to the 2019-2020 NABC Honors Court.

Soccer’s Foster, Rifle’s Babic nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

Rylee Foster of the West Virginia women’s soccer team and Milica Babic of the WVU rifle team have been named as nominees for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year. The award recognizes graduating female student-athletes after they have completed their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

Big 12 moves football media day to Aug. 3

Big 12 Media Days, a two-day program featuring press conferences with all 10 of the league’s head coaches and its commissioner, was supposed to take place virtually on July 20th and 21st. But the league announced Wednesday night that it has postponed the event until August 3rd.

Five Big 12 QBs Named to Davey O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List

A nation-high 50 percent of Big 12 programs placed a quarterback on the 2020 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List. Baylor senior Charlie Brewer, Sam Ehlinger of Texas Iowa State junior Brock Purdy, Spencer Sanders of Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech sophomore Alan Bowman were the five Big 12 quarterbacks on the watch list.

Running Backs Selected to Doak Walker Award Preseason List

Five Big 12 running backs have been chosen as preseason candidates for the 2020 Doak Walker Award. The conference’s candidates are Oklahoma State junior Chuba Hubbard, Kennedy Brooks of Oklahoma, Texas junior Keaontay Ingram, Breece Hall of Iowa State, and Texas Tech sophomore SaRodorick Thompson.
