I respect Kerry Martin’s right to share that some of my words and actions impacted him. I care deeply for for KJ, and when given the opportunity to speak to him directly, am optimistic we can find common ground. In the interim, I want to offer a sincere apology to both KJ and the entire WVU Family.
West Virginia Mountaineers defensive coordinator Vic Koenning issued a statement and apology via Twitter this afternoon regarding the events that have transpired over the past 24 hours after sophomore safety Kerry Martin brought to light some damaging allegations involving improper conduct and mistreatment at the hands of Koenning. The saga is playing out through an internal investigation through the athletic department, led by head coach Neal Brown and Athletic Director Shane Lyons. Currently Koenning is on administrative leave while the school conducts an investigation into the matters at hand. There are many reports out right now including the statements from both Lyons, Brown, Koenning and Martin’s former high school coach.
