The West Virginia football team welcomed players back to campus on Monday to begin voluntary workouts. WVU tested all players for COVID-19 when they returned, and only one Mountaineer tested positive for the virus. He and other players who may have been exposed will be mandated to self-quarantine for two weeks.
West Virginia’s football team will soon make its full return as the student-athlete phase began Monday and will last until June 29, as part of the team’s plan for phased return. “It’s Happening,” the team teased on its Twitter account alongside a montage of student-athletes preparing before the spring’s cancellation. Is Darryl Talley the most successful West Virginia football player in the past 50 years? Talley was a 1982 consensus All-American and had 484 career tackles at WVU. He was also one of the most prolific tacklers in Buffalo Bills history during his great NFL career.
West Virginia head baseball coach Randy Mazey has long been a proponent of pushing back the start and the finish of the college baseball season. The coronavirus shutdown may cause those plans to come up for further consideration. With many college programs taking significant financial hits from loss of revenue due to the shutdown, Mazey believes a better scheduling concept can make college baseball more profitable.
The Basketball Tournament (TBT) will begin playing on July 4 in Columbus, Ohio, and will feature 24 teams, including the West Virginia men’s basketball alumni team, Best Virginia. Mountaineer fans can see their alumni, including Da’Sean Butler, Kevin Jones, Juwan Staten, and John Flowers, play in TBT on ESPN.
West Virginia men’s basketball standout Alex Ruoff has spent the past decade playing professionally overseas. Ruoff’s career has taken him to Belgium, Germany, Spain, Finland, and the NBA D-League. Ruoff just finished the season with Göttingen in Germany and plans on returning to Morgantown for the remainder of the summer.

Five Big 12 Conference football players have been named to the 2020 Preseason Walter Camp Football Foundation All-American team. Oklahoma offensive lineman Creed Humphrey, Texas offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi, and Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard were named to the first team offense. Oklahoma State wide receiver Tylan Wallace and TCU defensive back Trevon Moehrig made the second team.
Oklahoma’s Cade Cavalli and Baylor’s Nick Loftin were selected on the first day of the 2020 MLB Draft. Seven additional Big 12 players were taken on the second day of the draft.

The NCAA football oversight committee finalized a proposal that will allow an extended college football preseason as teams begin to return to campuses to prepare for the fall. The proposal includes a two-week extension to the preseason which allows for additional workouts, walk-throughs, and meetings after teams lost their spring season to the COVID-19 shutdown.
