West Virginia men’s basketball fans were probably unsure what to make of the 2019 Big 12-Big East Battle, but 2020 should ring differently. WVU will take on Georgetown in Washington, D.C., as reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. This will be the second time the teams have played since WVU left for the Big 12 and first meeting since the 2014 NIT First Round.

The inter-conference challenge will take place the weekend of December 5, 2020. There has been no word on the location of this matchup, but it will presumably take place at Capital One Arena, in D.C. This will likely be a welcome road trip for WVU fans, as this will be the closest road game this season, and possibly one of only two on this side of the Mississippi (the Big 12/SEC Challenge games have yet to be unearthed).
This is the second year of the Big 12-Big East Battle, which adds another marquee non-conference opponent to the already difficult schedules for teams in both leagues. In 2019, the Big East won eight of the 10 matchups. WVU fell to St. John’s in New York City, 70-68.
WVU is 11-18 all-time against Georgetown, dating back to the 1974-75 season, with annual matchups from 1995-2012 when both teams were in the Big East Conference. Georgetown is coached by alumnus Patrick Ewing, who never faced WVU during his time playing for the Hoyas.
