Former WVU Safety Dravon Askew-Henry Signs NFL Contract

The safeties journey from WVU took him to the XFL and now the NFL

The New York Giants have signed former West Virginia Mountaineers safety Dravon Askew-Henry from his XFL contract with the New York Guardians. Askew-Henry becomes the fourth XFL player to sign a NFL contract, following players P.J. Walker, Jacob Ta’amu and Deatrick Nichols.

Dravon was one of the prize jewels of former head coach Dana Holgorsen and started a school record 51 games at safety. Hailing from Aliquippa, PA, Henry succeeded in being not seen on film much, something that actually is a blessing when talking about the last line of defense. One of his most memorable plays came his rookie season when he picked off a pass against Oklahoma State and returned it for a touchdown.

In the XFL, Dravon Askew-Henry didn’t have many memorable plays during actual game play but he did have a viral moment when he was called for holding and caught the officials flag in the air and threw it back to the official. This earned him a second flag for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Askew-Henry went undrafted out of West Virginia but spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots, where new Giants head coach Joe Judge first saw Dravon.
