This isn’t the first time that a West Virginia sports season ended early due to an epidemic. In 1918, the “Spanish Flu” stopped West Virginia’s activities on campus and the Mountaineer football season.

West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins relayed his disappointed when it became know that the college basketball season was ending abruptly. Coach Huggins was not only disappointed for his team, that had shown improvement in the last week of games and practice, but also the Mountaineer fans.
West Virginia Athletics
West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons announced that the suspension of all team activities will be extended to March 29, which is a date that was set by the Big 12 Conference. The situation will then by re-evaluated by the conference at that time.
Eight shooters from the West Virginia rifle team earned a combined 21 National Rifle Association and College Rifle Coaches Association All-America honors over the weekend.
Around the Big 12
Due to the developments related to COVID-19 the Big 12 Conference has announced that all organized team activities have been suspended until March 29 and will be re-evaluated at that time. In addition, all conference and non-conference competitions are cancelled through the end of the academic year, including spring sports that compete beyond the academic year.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has released its 2019-20 Men’s All-District Teams which include eight Big 12 players and Baylor coach Scott Drew. The lone West Virginia player to be named was freshman Oscar Tshiebwe.
Around the NCAA
The NCAA tournament selection committee decided not to release any brackets, even though many teams and fans wanted to know if their team would have made it into the tournament this March. But that doesn’t mean that brackets can’t be created without the committee.
