As WVU dips again in polls, Huggins vows ‘nothing is off the table’

West Virginia continues to move backwards in the polls, dropping the #17 in this week’s AP Top 25 and #18 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers were #14 in both polls last week. As a result, Bob Huggins is looking at changing the starting lineup and the amount of playing time for some WVU players.

Wolf named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

Junior left-handed pitcher Jackson Wolf of the West Virginia baseball team has been named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week. Wolf finished with no runs allowed on one hit in seven innings during the Mountaineers’ 3-0 win over Jacksonville in the 2020 season opener.

Baseball team to host Canisius in home opener

After defeating Jacksonville on Sunday to earn a season-opening series win, the West Virginia baseball team will return home to take on Canisius in its home opener this afternoon. Canisius comes into the game with a 1-3 record. The game will be broadcast on MountaineerTV.

Mountaineers Defeat Akron, Remain Undefeated

The West Virginia tennis team defeated Akron, 5-2, on Sunday. The Mountaineers remain perfect this season with a 6-0 record.

The West Virginia rifle team continues to rank #3 in the College Rifle Coaches Association Rankings. WVU suffered its first loss of the season, 4723-4712, to #1 Kentucky on Saturday. The Mountaineers are now 9-1overall, with a 7-1 Great America Rifle Conference record, heading into postseason competition.

The #28 West Virginia gymnastics team is still outside of the top 25 in the Road to Nationals Rankings. WVU is also ranked #27 on both uneven bars and floor exercise.

The West Virginia golf team finished in sixth place at the Florida Gators Invitational. WVU was led by junior Logan Perkins who finished in second place on the individual leaderboard.

The West Virginia wrestling team wrapped up its road schedule for this season with a 36-6 loss at #19 Iowa State. Redshirt sophomore Noah Adams and redshirt freshman Alex Hornfeck had individual victories for the Mountaineers. Adams remains undefeated this year with a 27-0 record.

WVU’s Tim Flynn to be inducted into Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame

The Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association has announced that West Virginia head coach Tim Flynn will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame.

A pair of Texas Tech freshmen, Nate Rombach and Jace Jung, joined West Virginia’s Jackson Wolf as the season’s first Big 12 Baseball Players of the Week. Rombach was named conference Player of the Week, Jung earned the Newcomer of the Week award, and Wolf was chosen as conference Pitcher of the Week.

Oklahoma’s Maggie Nichols was this week’s Big 12 Conference Gymnast of the Week, while her teammate Vanessa Deniz earned her second Newcomer of the Week award. Iowa State’s Jade Vella-Wright won her first career conference Newcomer of the Week award. And Denver’s Alexis Vasquez was this week’s Event Specialist of the Week for the Big 12.
