WVU men’s hoops vs. Buffalo canceled

The #7 West Virginia men’s basketball team has announced that its December 29th game against Buffalo has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Bulls’ program. The Mountaineers were set to face UB for the fifth time in program history, hoping to avenge their 2018 meeting in which the Bulls upset WVU in Morgantown to open the 2018-19 season. Buffalo won that game in overtime, 99–94.

WVU men’s hoops moves up a spot in the AP Top 25

West Virginia men’s basketball moved up one spot to #7 in the latest edition of the AP Top 25 on Monday. WVU is one of five Big 12 schools in the poll. Baylor is at #2, followed by Kansas at #3 after the Jayhawks moved up two spots. Texas is a few spots behind the Mountaineers at #10, with Texas Tech picking up the rear at #15.

WVU visits Kansas Tuesday in a Top 10 contest, Buffalo game canceled

Two of the nation’s top teams will share the floor at Allen Fieldhouse tonight at 9 p.m. when #7 West Virginia visits #3 Kansas. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2. The Mountaineers and Jayhawks have both been defeated by #1 Gonzaga, accounting for their only losses of the season.

WVU erases 16-point deficit to defeat Ohio, 88-79

The West Virginia women’s basketball team trailed by as many as 16 but used a strong, second-half rally to take down Ohio, 88-79, on Monday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum. Four Mountaineers finished in double figures in the win, led by redshirt senior guard Kyrse Gondrezick’s 24 points and eight assists.

WVU escapes upset against Iowa State to open conference play

The #7 West Virginia men’s basketball team went into Friday night’s matchup with Iowa State as a clear favorite but got a fight to the very end before sealing the game with six straight points to pull out the first Big 12 win of the season, 70-65.

The West Virginia wrestling team hosted wrestle-offs on Sunday, at the WVU Shell Building in Morgantown, to kick off the 2021 season. WVU’s grapplers competed in hard-fought battles throughout the day, with hopes of securing themselves a spot in third-year coach Tim Flynn’s starting lineup.

WVU Reveals 2021 Rifle Slate

West Virginia has announced the 2020-21 rifle schedule. The Mountaineers regular season will consist of three home matches and three away matches. WVU will shoot against Ohio State, Ole Miss, Navy, and Akron at home.

2021 Swimming and Diving Schedule Unveiled

West Virginia has announced the 2021 men’s and women’s swimming and diving schedule. In the Mountaineers’ second season at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, the team is set to host three home events, including the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships for the second consecutive season.

Mountaineers Make the Most of Unusual Fall

The rollercoaster year for the West Virginia men’s soccer team began in January, when the squad welcomed a new head coach to the program. Dan Stratford, a London, England, native and member of the men’s soccer team from 2004-07, was named the program’s 10th head coach in January, but the year did not go as planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Freshman Brown leads No. 11 Texas past Oklahoma State, 77-74

Texas freshman Greg Brown had 24 points and 14 rebounds, both season bests, to help the #11 Longhorns beat Oklahoma State, 77-74, on Sunday in its Big 12 opener. Andrew Jones also matched his career best with 22 points, and Matt Coleman had 15 for Texas.

Pack scores season-high 16, Kansas State beats Jacksonville

Freshman Nijel Pack scored a season-high 16 points, with four three-pointers, and Kansas State rolled to a 70-46 win over Jacksonville on Monday. DaJuan Gordon also had his second career double-double for the Wildcats with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Iowa State ends 4-game skid beating Jackson State 60-45

Solomon Young scored 18 points and Jalen Coleman-Lands added 16 to help Iowa State beat Jackson State, 60-45, on Sunday.

App State crushes North Texas, 56-28, in inaugural Myrtle Beach Bowl

After losing to Coastal Carolina earlier this season on the very same field, Appalachian State destroyed North Texas, 56-28, behind an FBS bowl record-tying five rushing touchdowns and an NCAA bowl-record 319 rushing yards from running back Camerun Peoples in the inaugural Myrtle Beach Bowl Monday at Brooks Stadium.

Suggs leads top-ranked Gonzaga or No. 3 Iowa 99-88

Despite a layoff because of the coronavirus, #1 Gonzaga showed little rust in a 99-88 victory over the #3 Hawkeyes. That seemed especially true for freshman Jalen Suggs who scored 18 of his career-high 27 points in the first half to lead the Bulldogs.
