Three West Virginia football players were named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the 2020 season. Junior running back Leddie Brown, senior defensive lineman Darius Stills, and senior linebacker Tony Fields showed out this season and were recognized for their performance.
The conference allows coaches and media to vote on the team selection.
The Philadelphia native greatly improved from the 2019 season. Brown rushed for 945 yards on 179 attempts, averaging 105 yards per game and almost 5.3 yards per carry. He was second to Iowa State’s Breece Hall in total rushing yards. Brown added 202 yards receiving for 1147 all-purpose yards in 2020. His 87-yard touchdown run cemented the Mountaineers’ win over Kansas.
A monster on the defensive live, Sills recorded 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in just nine games. This made him the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year. Fans will remember his defensive play of the year, a sprawled-out interception against Kansas. Sills has announced he will leave WVU for the NFL.
Tony Fields II
Fields tallied more tackles per game than any other Big 12 player this season. The 2020 Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year pulled down 34 solo tackles and assisted on 54 more tackles. He also snagged an interception and sacked a quarterback once. Fields announced he will not return for the 2021 seasons and pursue a professional career.
