Takeaways and Notes
- I think we saw the best performance of the season from Jarret Doege today. He looked more comfortable in the pocket and was able to hit some of those out routes that he’d been overthrowing and underthrowing up until today. Doege finished 19-of-26 passing (73%) for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Those aren’t eye popping stats, outside of the completion percentage, but when you’ve got someone like Leddie Brown that can run the ball you don’t need to throw for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns each game.
- I know we’ve heaped praise on the defensive line all season, but it really feels like this is our best defensive line since the mid-90s. Akheem Mesidor is already proving to be a force to be reckoned with as a true freshman, and should be the key piece to build the line around after the Stills brothers move on to the NFL.
- Welcome back, TJ Simmons. TJ finally had the day we all were waiting for, hauling in four catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
Player of the Game
Leddie Brown

For what feels like the 6th time this season, I’m giving the Player of the Game honors to Leddie Brown. Brown just keeps proving he’s the best player on the field. While he didn’t score a touchdown today, Leddie finished with 154 yards rushing on 24 attempts, for an average of 6.5 yards per attempt. Brown continues to be the difference maker for West Virginia’s offense.
What’s Next?
West Virginia is back in action in two weeks, when they’re scheduled to take on the Oklahoma Sooners in Morgantown — provided both teams can meet the Big 12 requirement for available players. Kickoff time and broadcast information will be announced next weekend.
