GAME NOTES
- The series between West Virginia and Texas Tech started in 1937 with a 7-6 WVU win in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. The last meeting took place in 2019 in Morgantown, with Texas Tech winning 38-17. That meeting broke West Virginia’s string of five straight wins in the series. The Mountaineers are 3-1 in games played in Lubbock, including winning the last three. West Virginia leads the series, 6-3.
- West Virginia leads the nation in total defense (240.3) and is tied for first in defensive yards allowed per play (4.05).
- West Virginia is the only school in the nation ranked in the Top 10 in 10 different defensive categories, including five in the Top 5.
- West Virginia’s offense is ranked No. 12 nationally in red zone offense (.944), No. 17 in total offense (466.5), No. 23 in passing offense (277.3), No. 25 in rushing offense (189.3) and No. 33 in passes intercepted (3).
- WVU’s passing offense is completing 63.9% (101-158) of its passes this season, ranking No. 4 in the Big 12 and No. 21 nationally
