Ok boys and girls, men and women, Mountaineer fans, get ready because the single most awesome one-off color combination is making its 2020 debut when the Appalachian Tigers roar in Lubbock, Texas to take on the Texas Tech Raiders. This is the third time the Mountaineers have worn this amazing uniform against the former Mike Leaches.

This uniform first debuted in 2014 in Stillwater and the Mountaineers often play like one of the top defenses when they wear the Gold/White/Gold. In fact, they’ve only lost once in this uniform, a bull[—-] loss to TCU in 2018 on a phantom pass interference call. Other than that game, the Mountaineers are one tough hombre.

In 2016, the first time the Appy Tigers went into Lubbock, they held future NFL and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes to 17 points as Skyler Howard beat the Red Raiders 48-17. Two years later, Touchdown Jesus Will Grier threw for 370 yards and the defense held Jett Duffey to 172 yards through the air.

The other thing that is up for grabs on Saturday is the John Denver Trophy.

The Red Raiders stole the trophy last year so I fully expect it to come back to Morgantown where it rightfully belongs.
