West Virginia men’s basketball climbed four spots to No. 11 in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll and two spots to No. 12 in the AP Top 25 Poll. The Big 12 Conference only placed three teams in the poll. The Mountaineers remained at No. 7 in the NETT Rankings
WVU collected to dominating victories last week. The Mountaineers smacked down Texas 97-59, last Monday night at home (the highest point total and largest margin of victory on the season), and blitzed Missouri 74-51, in the Big 12/SEC Challenge in the WVU Coliseum on Saturday.
Baylor remained No. 1 and Kansas remained No. 3 in both polls. For some reason, KU received one number-one vote in the AP Poll, despite losing to Baylor in Lawrence earlier this season. Unfortunately for the conference and WVU, Texas Tech’s losses to TCU and Kentucky knocked the Red Raiders out of the top 25.
In the NETT Rankings, Baylor remained at the top and Kansas stayed at No. 4.
The Mountaineers face Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, on Wednesday, Jan. 29, then will look for revenge against Kansas State at home on Saturday, Feb. 1.
