WVU owns the all-time series, 7-1, with a five-game win streak. The lone KU triumph came in 2013, with a 19-13 win in Lawrence. The loss to the Jayhawks was one of eight in the worst WVU football season since 2001.
Neal Brown and Les Miles are both in their first seasons with their teams and both picked up wins against FCS opponents in week one, but suffered defeats in week two. For both coaches, the schedule difficulty only increases. The Mountaineers welcome N.C. State to Morgantown on Saturday, Sept. 14. Kansas travels to Boston College in week three.
This is the first meeting between Brown and Miles as head coaches. However, the the two have met twice when Brown as a coordinator. The first meeting was in 2008; Brown was the offensive coordinator at Troy, losing 40-31 to the LSU Tigers, led by Miles. In 2014, when the former was the offensive coordinator at Kentucky and the latter was the head coach at LSU, Miles’ team won 41-3. Both meetings were in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
