Neal Brown has been showing his ability to not only manage his players during games, but also manage the situations that the Mountaineers are in. Brown has been making adjustments, using analytics, managing the clock, and playing to his team’s strengths while also minimizing its weaknesses.
Staley Named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week
West Virginia’s junior kicker Evan Staley kicked in three field goals, including a 44 yard kick that is now his season long, to earn Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Staley also averaged 62.8 yards per kick and four touchbacks on his six kickoffs.
Massive time of possession edge crucial to West Virginia win at Kansas
West Virginia had the ball for literally an entire quarter more than Kansas. The Mountaineers maintained a 15-minute edge in possession against the Jayhawks, showing that sometimes the best defense is your own offense.

Leddie Brown and Kennedy McKoy each rushed for more yardage than the Mountaineers had in their first two games combined, while Martell Pettaway added a pair of touchdowns that proved critical in a 29-24 road win over Kansas.
A week after getting no call, Martell Pettaway answers the bell
Martell Pettaway did not play versus NC State, which was the first time since his freshman year that he did not play in a game that he was dressed out for. Pettaway did not let that set him back, as he proved himself with two touchdowns against Kansas.

WVU Baseball: Randy Mazey Earns Big Contract Extension
After leading the West Virginia baseball team to two NCAA Tournaments in the past three years, Randy Mazey was rewarded with a $2.6M contract extension on Monday.
WVU Wins Four Against Marshall to Cap Tournament
The West Virginia tennis team concluded the Thunder in the Mountains tournament this weekend by winning four of its five singles matches against in-state rival Marshall. The Mountaineers will head to the William & Mary Hidden Duel Tournament next weekend.
The West Virginia women’s soccer team defeated Bowling Green this weekend, 2-0. Sophomore forward Alina Stahl scored both goals for WVU. The Mountaineers are now 5-3-1 this season.
Mountaineers Victorious in Evening Tilt
The West Virginia volleyball team has now won four straight, after defeating Navy 3-2 at the Mountaineer Invitational this weekend. The Mountaineers went undefeated at their invitational, knocking off Duquesne and Eastern Kentucky, both 3-0, before playing Navy.
The West Virginia cross country team finished in first place at the Lock Haven Invitational for the second consecutive year. Junior Hayley Jackson led the Mountaineers with a second-place overall finish.
Mountaineers Head to No. 1 Wake Forest
The #17 West Virginia golf team is currently taking on #1 Wake Forest, #7 Louisville, #8 Washington, #13 Penn State, and many other teams in the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational. The Mountaineers were paired with Virginia Tech and Rutgers in the first two rounds.
WVU Reveals 2019-20 Wrestling Slate
The West Virginia wrestling schedule has been released. Some of the highlights include matchups against Virginia Tech at the Hokie Open and in a regular matchup in Blacksburg, hosting Pitt in the Backyard Brawl, and the Big 12 opener at Oklahoma State.
Mountaineers Meet Ohio State in Columbus
The West Virginia men’s soccer team will take on Ohio State tonight. WVU is currently 4-2-1, while the Buckeyes are 5-2. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series with OSU, 10-6-4.
Iowa State Match Set for 11 a.m.
Now that the start time for the West Virginia football game against #11 Texas has been set, the WVU volleyball match for that Saturday has also been determined. The match is free to the public and will feature a “Beat Texas” t-shirt to the first 500 fans.
The #20 West Virginia men’s soccer team suffered a tough, 2-0 loss to Dayton this past weekend. The Flyers scored two goals, back-to-back, in the second half of the match, and the Mountaineers were never able to get on the board.

Big 12 Weekly Honors Spread Across Four Teams
Iowa State’s Brock Purdy was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Oklahoma State safety Kolby Harvell-Peel earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, West Virginia kicker Evan Staley was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week, and Newcomer of the Week went to Kansas wide receiver Andrew Parchment.
Big 12 notebook: Key Horns out for WVU game; Gundy goes ballistic
#11 Texas will be without starting cornerback Jalen Green and starting safety Caden Sterns in its upcoming games. Outspoken Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy chewed out a reporter.
KU charged with lack of institutional control, more
The NCAA’s enforcement staff has charged the University of Kansas with lack of institutional control and Jayhawks basketball coach Bill Self with head coach responsibility violations. The Jayhawks are charged with multiple Level 1 violations, the most serious under NCAA rules, as well as allegations related to the school’s football program under former coach David Beaty.
KU football fans’ standing ovation after loss recognition of ‘progress,’ players say
The Kansas crowd was engaged in the game when the Jayhawks hosted West Virginia. The fans even gave the team a standing ovation after the loss to recognize the effort and progress in the team.
Big 12 title odds: It’s Oklahoma’s race to lose
The Sooners currently have a 47% chance of winning the Big 12 title again this season. The Longhorns are behind them with a 17% chance to win the conference championship.
KU’s Perry Ellis returning to campus as team staff
Former Kansas basketball standout Perry Ellis is returning to the KU basketball team. This time Ellis will be the staff’s video coordinator, instead of the starting forward for the Jayhawks.
