The writers here at the Smoking Musket are just like you, our readers. We are fans of the West Virginia Mountaineers and we live and breathe for that Old Gold ‘n Blue. Most of us grew up in West Virginia, played sports in West Virginia high schools and some of us still live in West Virginia.
Unfortunately, this story isn’t about the Mountaineers, it’s about Alex Miller, the senior wide receiver and defensive back for Roane County High School who collapsed on the field Friday and later passed away.

Players from Ritchie Middle and High School, St. Marys Middle and High School, Williamstown, Belpre and Parkersburg South helped collect donations for Miller’s family in Ritchie County.
They lined the roads wearing their jerseys and holding signs in support of the Raiders.
The players ended up raising more than $7,600 for the Miller family.
This story hits home for every West Virginian. Losing a son before he's 18 is tough and our thoughts and prayers are with the Miller family during this time. We will join everyone in wearing Maroon & Silver in support of Alex and we ask that you do the same.
