Mountaineers in the NFL: Week 1

The NFL opened up its 100th season this week, here’s how your Mountaineer alumni performed!

Week 1 of the NFL season has come and gone:

Player of the Week

Kyzir White (LB/S, LAC) started at linebacker in Week 1 for the Chargers, recording 9 total tackles, including 1 for a loss. He was a huge factor in the Chargers defense that did just enough to help the Bolts start their season with a W.

Those Who Played

Tavon Austin (WR, DAL) had a quiet opening week, catching his only target for 8 yards.

Rasul Douglas (CB, PHI) started and had 3 tackles and a pass deflection in the Eagles opening day win over Washington.

Mark Glowinski (OL, IND) got the start at RG for the Colts, but struggled against the Chargers pass rush. He’ll look to correct that next week vs. Tennessee.

Najee Goode (LB, JAC) finished with 3 tackles in a loss at home to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Karl Joseph (S, OAK) led the Raiders with 7 total tackles (3 solo), including 1 tackle for loss, in their 24-16 win over the Broncos on Monday night.

Daryl Worley (DB, OAK) recorded 2 tackles (1 solo) for Oakland on Monday night.

Those Who Did Not Record Any Statistics

Yodny Cajuste (OL, NE) did not play.

Will Grier (QB, CAR) was inactive in Week 1.

Gary Jennings Jr. (WR, SEA) was inactive in Week 1.

Bruce Irvin (LB/DE, CAR) was inactive due to an injury for Week 1.

Nick Kwiatkoski (LB, CHI) did not record any statistics.

David Long Jr. (LB, TEN) did not record any statistics.

Wendell Smallwood (RB, WAS) was active for Washington, but did not see the field against his former team. Smallwood was claimed on waivers a few days ago and got the nod over Adrian Peterson to be the 3rd string running back for the ‘Skins. We’ll see if he can see the field in Week 2.

Geno Smith (QB, SEA) did not record any statistics.

Quinton Spain (OL, BUF) did not play.

Trevon Wesco (TE, NYJ) did not record any statistics.

Those That are on a Practice Squad

David Sills V (WR, NYG)

Those That are Free Agents

Dravon Askew-Henry (S, PIT) will not make a roster to begin the 2019 campaign. The rookie safety will definitely sign onto a practice squad, as he competed all throughout camp to be the Steelers third-string SS.

Don Barclay (OL, DEN) was right on the bubble of making this team as a backup Guard, but ultimately was cut.

Adam Pankey (OL, GB) was right on the bubble of making this team, but didn’t make it. He’ll be looking for a new NFL home.

Kevin White (WR, FA) there isn’t anything new with White. He has too much service time to be signed to a practice squad, so he may be out of luck in the NFL.
