Behind unbelievable pitching from Ryan Berget and Zach Ottinger, the WVU baseball team blanked 10th-ranked Texas Tech 2-0, to advance to the Big 12 Championship game.
The Red Raiders couldn’t find the bases in the first four innings, as Bergert was hitless through the first 13 batters he faced.
In the fifth inning, after a hit batsman and giving up a single, Bergert was replaced by Ottinger who faced the minimum three of the last four innings.
The two freshman pitchers combined for only one hit and struck out seven and no walks (but on hit-by-pitch).
Offensively, a Darius Hill sac fly to score Tyler Doanes in the third inning. Brandon White would double the West Virginia lead on a Marques Inman double play in the sixth.
White led WVU with three hits.
With the win, the Mountaineers will take on either Oklahoma State or TCU tomorrow at about 2 p.m. ET on AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh.
