Game One - #4 West Virginia Mountaineers 12, #5 Kansas Jayhawks 8
The Mountaineers jumped on the Jayhawks early, clobbering 9 runs on the board in the first three innings. The Jayhawks finally found the key to Nick Snyder in the fourth and fifth innings, as six Kansas players crossed the plate, cutting the lead to 9-7. The Mountaineers held on as Paul McIntosh and Brandon White each drove in four runs.
Game Two - #1 Texas Tech Red Raiders 7, #8 Kansas State Wildcats 4
Much like the Mountaineers win, the Red Raiders jumped on the Wildcats early, putting 5 runs in the first three innings. Big 12 Co-Player of the Year, SS Josh Jung went 3-3 at the plate. The Wildcats made it interesting, loading the bases in the top of the 9th inning with only one out but grounded into a fielder’s choice at home to end the rally.
Game Three - #2 Baylor Bears 8, #7 Oklahoma Sooners 2
The Baylor Bears mashed three homeruns against the Sooners and Bears starter Paul Dickens threw 6 and 1⁄3 great innings, allowing one run as Baylor looks to make noise in the Tournament. Juniors Shea Langeliers and Andy Thomas both homered and reached base safely 7 times.
Game Four - #3 Oklahoma State Cowboys 5, #6 TCU Horned Frogs 2
Horned Frogs ace Nick Lodolo, a future first-round pick in the upcoming MLB draft, went 5 innings giving up only 1 runs but it wasn’t enough as Parker Scott matched him for 6 innings of one-run ball. In the sixth, the Cowboys exploded for 4 runs against Lodolo thanks to Trevor Boone’s two-run homer.
Thursday’s Games
Elimination Game - #5 Kansas vs #8 Kansas State - Kansas swept the Wildcats in the season finale to earn the #5 seed. The Jayhawks will look to keep their slim chances alive at 10 AM this morning.
Elimination Game - #6 TCU vs #7 Oklahoma - The Frogs took two of three from the Sooners in Norman in April. The Frogs threw their ace against the Cowboys and now will likely put the ball in the hands of Charles King following the KU/KSt game.
Winner’s Game - #4 West Virginia vs #1 Texas Tech - Randy Mazey put the ball in the hands of Nick Snyder in Game 1 and now will put his trust in Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Alek Manoah. Manoah struck out 15 Red Raiders in April in a complete game shutout. West Virginia plays at 5 PM.
Winner’s Game - #2 Baylor vs #3 Oklahoma State - The Bears lost two games to the Cowboys last week in the final series of the regular season including a 16-4 defeat a week ago. Bear pitcher Jimmy Winston was ineffective against the Cowboys, throwing 96 pitches in only four innings of work. The game starts at 8:30 PM.
