West Virginia tight end Trevon Wesco selected by the New York Jets in NFL Draft fourth round

NFL: Combine Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

West Virginia Mountaineers tight end Trevon Wesco will be taking his talents to New York City after being selected by the Jets with the 19th pick in the 4th round of the 2019 NFL Draft (No. 121 overall).

Wesco caught 26 passes for 366 yards and a TD in 2018, giving Will Grier a viable 3rd-4th option in the passing game and had a number of highlight reel plays where he carried full-grown men on his back 5-10 yards downfield before finally being brought down. He was honored as a member of the All Big-12 1st Team, and earned an invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, where he was able to give scouts another look at his ability to play TE or full back.

Wesco’s blocking is arguably the most impressive part of his game. NFL scouts have salivated over Wesco’s willingness to get his hands dirty and finish his blocks. He was essentially a 6th lineman for the Mountaineers last season, giving the halfbacks another big body opening holes for them in the trenches.

The Smoking Musket will have additional analysis of Trevon Wesco’s NFL destination, as well as other Mountaineers selected in the 2019 NFL Draft as the weekend continues.
