West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Will Grier won’t have to travel far from his hometown of Davidson, North Carolina to continue his football career, after being selected by the Carolina Panthers with the No. 100 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Charlotte, North Carolina area native was a two-year starter for the West Virginia Mountaineers after initially beginning his career as a Florida Gator. Grier announced his transfer to West Virginia in April 2016, following his one-year suspension for a banned substance in his redshirt freshman season at the University of Florida. In his two seasons as a Mountaineer, Grier completed 516 of 785 passes (66%), totaling 7354 yards, 71 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

Grier finished fourth in the 2018 Heisman trophy race, just missing the cut for an invitation to New York City in December.

The Smoking Musket will have additional analysis of Will Grier’s NFL destination, as well as other Mountaineers to be selected in the 2019 NFL Draft as the weekend continues.
