The Mountaineers hung in there against the #3 Beavers, but ultimately couldn’t do enough to pull out the victory.

West Virginia (5-5) fell to the Oregon State Beavers (10-0) on Saturday afternoon in Corvallis, Oregon 4-2.

A game in which the Mountaineers were in right until the very end, they came up just short of earning a victory over OSU on Saturday afternoon.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, OSU SS Beau Philip hit a solo home run to right center field to get the Beavers on the board first.

WVU then took their first lead of the series in the top of the 4th when LF TJ Lake hit a line drive double to right center field that scored Andrew Zitel and Darius Hill, putting WVU up 2-1.

However, the lead didn’t last for long, as in the bottom of the 4th, Philip hit another home run, this time a 2-run shot that made it 3-2 OSU.

In the bottom of the 6th, OSU preseason All-American catcher Adley Rutschman hit a solo home run to left field that extended the lead to 4-2, where it would stay for the remainder of the game.

WVU will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they look to salvage one game of this series. You can watch the game here at 4:05 PM.

Let’s go, Mountaineers!
