- West Virginia and St. John’s will be meeting for the 38th time in all-time series play. West Virginia was a member of the Big East from 1995-2012. The Mountaineers held a 13-7 edge during Big East play. Coach Bob Huggins is 4-2 against St. John’s. The Mountaineers have won 10 of the last 12 meetings in the series that began in 1936-37.
- The Mountaineers have won 17 of their last 28 games at Madison Square Garden. WVU is 32-46 all-time at MSG.
- WVU is off to its best start since the 2015-16 and 2014-15 seasons when the Mountaineers started 7-0 in each season.
- With a win at Oklahoma State on Dec. 29, 2017, Bob Huggins moved past Jim Phelan on the NCAA Division I winningest coaches list. Huggins’ record now stands at 867-362 in his 37th season as a head coach. He needs nine more victories to tie Adolph Rupp for seventh place all-time.
