West Virginia’s Miles McBride has been selected Big 12 men’s basketball Newcomer of the Week. McBride scored a game-high and career-high 21 points in WVU’s win over #2 Ohio State.
In its final game before jumping into league play, West Virginia showed that will be a force to be reckoned with this season, knocking off #2 Ohio State 67-59 in an NCAA tournament-like atmosphere in Cleveland.
The West Virginia men’s basketball team knocked off the second best team of the country, Ohio State, without its top two big men. Miles McBride led the Mountaineers with 21 points.
Miles McBride was unquestionably the best offensive player for West Virginia in Sunday’s 67-59 win over Ohio State. Senior guard Chase Harler also made the most of his minutes off the bench by scoring a season-high 10 points.
Bob Huggins’ Mountaineers have announced themselves to the world following their resume-building win over the Ohio State on Sunday. The college basketball world took notice and WVU, who was not ranked in the initial polls and just entered the polls last week at #22, has moved up to #16.
The Big 12 Conference has announced that WVU’s conference opener against the #5 Kansas in Lawrence will tip off at 4:00PM ET on Saturday, January 4th. The game will also mark the first of five games for the Mountaineers that will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Over five weeks have passed since the West Virginia women’s basketball team hosted a game at the Coliseum. That stretch will end when the Mountaineers host Cornell this afternoon.
The West Virginia women’s basketball team remains #19 in the latest Associated Press Top-25 Poll. The Mountaineers are currently 9-1.

Texas Tech forward Lexi Gordon was named the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Kansas State freshman Ayoka Lee won her fifth Freshman of the Week award.
