The West Virginia Mountaineers running back room for 2020 just became one body thinner as senior running back Martell Pettaway has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. Pettaway, who entered the season as the co-starter with Kennedy McKoy, played four games before choosing to redshirt and sitting out the rest of the season.

Pettaway, who burst onto the scene against Iowa State way back in 2016, when as a freshman, Pettaway was the only healthy running back available when the team took on the Iowa St. Cyclones. Pettaway carried the ball that day 30 times for 181 yards and a touchdown. That game would be the best of Pettaway’s career and one of his two 100-yard games as a Mountaineer. His second game came last year against the Texas Longhorns when he ran for 121 yards on only 9 carries against the Longhorns.

If Pettaway chooses to transfer, he will finish his Mountaineer career with 1,104 yards on 217 carriers, a 5.0 YPC average.
