The seemingly deep Mountaineers got good news on Wednesday, learning that Arkansas transfer Gabe Osabuohien has been ruled immediately eligible.
The junior from Canada has been practicing with the program for several months, waiting on his waiver to be approved.
A quick look at Osabuohien’s stats may seem under whelming at around 3 points, three rebounds and one assist per game.
Looking at his averages per 40 minutes, which gives a slightly better picture of productivity, he averages 7.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block. It also show he is foul-prone, averaging 7.3 personal fouls per 40 minutes. Despite only playing 15 minutes per game last season, he finished 13th in the SEC in total personal fouls.
What we can expect from a guy who averaged 15 minutes per game with some underwhelming stats?
What we know is he is aggressive, plays defense, takes charges and rebounds. He appears to be a power forward who can guard small forwards, which is a big advantage on the defensive end.
There are a couple of highlight videos from youtube that are worth watching, although keep in mind they are highlight videos and not game film breakdowns. One video shows his 3-point shooting prowess when in reality he shot just 20% from beyond the arc and probably won’t often have the proverbial green light at WVU.
Here are two videos:
