Against Kansas State on Saturday, Nov. 16, Doege lead the Mountaineers (4-6, 2-5) to a 24-20 win in Manhattan, Kansas. He completed 20 passes on 30 attempts for 234 yards and three touchdowns.
Though 234 yards is just the fifth-most passing yardage this season, his three passing touchdowns equal the most WVU had thrown (N.C. State, Sept. 14).
Doege transferred to WVU from Bowling Green in the summer of 2019 but his eligibility for the 2019 season was uncertain until the week before the first game. WVU football head coach Neal Brown redshirted the junior from Lubbock, Texas, but thanks to the modified NCAA regulations, Doege is able to play in four games for WVU while maintaining his redshirt.
His first appearance was against Texas Tech on Nov. 9.
This is the third time a WVU player has been named Newcomer of the Week this season. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Sam James has received the honor twice (Sept. 16 and Nov. 11).
