For the second straight week, the West Virginia women’s basketball team received votes in the Associated Press Poll. The Mountaineers received 59 votes in this week’s poll, just one behind #25 South Florida.
West Virginia Athletics
For the 20th season in a row, the West Virginia women’s soccer team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Mountaineers will face Georgetown in the first round on Saturday.
Redshirt sophomore, and West Virginia native, Noah Adams of the WVU wrestling team won his second straight tournament championship at the Mountaineer Invitational in Boone, North Carolina, on Saturday. Six other Mountaineers also earned top five finishes at the tournament.
The West Virginia men’s soccer team will face SIU Edwardsville in the Mid-American Conference Championship Quarterfinals tonight. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in their regular season match earlier this month.
Following a week away from action, the undefeated West Virginia rifle team remains at #2 in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Rankings.
Around the Big 12
West Virginia wide receiver Sam James was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Defensive Player of the Week went to Baylor linebacker Terrel Bernard. The Bears’ kicker John Mayers also won Special Teams Player of the Week.
Six Big 12 teams will compete in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. West Virginia, Kansas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech are the team representing the conference in the tournament this postseason.
#9 Oklahoma and #12 Baylor both survived close games this past weekend, and now the two teams are preparing to meet in Waco, Texas, later this week.
