The Mountaineers will showcase their talents for the 49ers coaching staff.

Will Grier, David Sills V, Yodney Cajuste, Tevon Wesco and David Long Jr. have accepted invitations to play in the 2019 Reese’s Senior Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 1:30 p.m. CST, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. West Virginia players compete on the South team, which is coached this year by the San Francisco 49ers.

Five players is a new record for the number of Mountaineers participating in the Senior Bowl, which dates back to 1950.

Grier, Sills and Wesco stand to gain a lot of knowledge from this game, as they will be coached by offensive-minded Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the 49ers. They will also work with Matt LaFleur, the passing game coordinator and receivers coach for the 49ers.

For some reason, Wesco is listed as a running back, but he’ll be under the direction of John Embree (tight ends coach) and/or Robert Turner (running backs coach). It’s also likely he’ll work with running game coordinators Mike McDaniel.

Other notable receivers on the South team include Jalen Hurd from Baylor and Hunter Renfrow from Clemson. Grier will be grouped with Ryan Finley from N.C. State, Jarrett Stidham from Auburn, and Daniel Jones from Duke.

Cajuste will receive tutelage from John Benton, O-line coach for San Francisco. He stands to prove a lot during the week of practice due to his lack of playing time from a few injuries during his career at WVU.

Long will be coached up by 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and linebackers coach Johnny Holland. He will be practicing with D’Andre Walker from Georgia and Christian Miller from Alabama, among others.
