The West Virginia Mountaineers are now a top eight team after boat racing the Texas tech red raiders for fifteen minutes and then hanging on for another victory. The Mountaineers jump four spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The #8 position is one spot higher than the Mountaineers were when they defeated the Baylor Bears to start Big 12 play in 2012. After that victory the Eers rose from #9 to #5.

The Mountaineers are the second Big 12 team in the top ten. The Oklahoma Sooners are fifth. Penn State Nittany Lions drop two spots to number eleven following their fourth quarter meltdown against #4 Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Mountaineers are number 9 in the latest Associated Press Top 25. The Mountaineers received 998 votes only four less votes than number 8 Auburn Tigers.
