Week 5 Watch List: We Like Beer!

Your viewing (and drinking) guide to a back loaded schedule of college football

Well, Mountaineer fans can take some pride in our team playing in probably the only interesting game until Saturday at 7:30. This weekend is a weird one for college football, as somehow any intriguing matchup is sullied by a team not being anywhere close to as good as we wanted them to be this season.

To shake things up, every matchup has a special drinking game associated with it, so make sure to have plenty of beer handy. Cause we like beer!

Noon:

Syracuse @ No. 3 Clemson, 12:00, ABC

The Orange (4-0) knocked off the then-No. 1 Tigers (4-0) in New York last season, so anything is possible. Somehow, both teams are undefeated, but only one is ranked. Really, the intrigue here is new starting QB Trevor Lawrence. Drink every time you hear the broadcast crew talk about redshirts, transferring or Kelly Bryant.

No. 12 West Virginia @ Texas Tech, 12:00, ESPN2

Literally no other games at noon are interesting except Oklahoma State at Kansas, which is not on national TV. Just watch the Mountaineers (3-0) and Red Raiders (3-1) and drink every time someone scores.

Afternoon:

Tennessee @ No. 2 Georgia, 3:30 PM, CBS

The marquee matchup in the SEC should be a blow out. The Bulldogs (4-0) are have rolled through the easiest division in college football and face struggling Volunteers (2-2) at home. Drink any time they mention Justin Fields, Nick Saban, or a coach who used to coach for Nick Saban.

No. 18 Texas @ Kansas State, 3:30 PM, FS1

Will the Wildcats (2-2) continue their win streak in Manhattan or will the Longhorns (3-1) continue their climb to being a team that wins games it should? Drink when they mention Texas back or Tom Herman restoring the program or Bill Snyder being classy.

Primetime:

South Carolina @ No. 17 Kentucky, 7:30 PM, SEC Network

If you don’t have the SEC Network, you can watch the Gamecocks (2-1) and Wildcats (4-0) play on ESPN+. This is probably a battle for who will finish second in the SEC East behind UGA, but UK is still undefeated and looking low-key good. Drink when they mention UGA or a Stoops brother.

No. 20 BYU @ No. 11 Washington, 8:30 PM, FOX

Don’t watch OSU and PSU. Stand up against the man and watch the teams from wholesome schools play. The Huskies (3-1) and Cougars (3-1) are looking to prove they belong in the College Football Playoff. Drink when they mention independent schools or show a shot of Union Bay or Puget Sound.

After Dark:

No. 19 Oregon @ No. 23 Cal, 10:30 PM, FS1

A matchup of ranked teams on Pac-12 After Dark? Yes please. The Ducks (3-1) came close to a redefining upset last week and must now avoid a let down against the Golden Bears (3-0) on the road. Drink during this Pac-12 North matchup whenever they show Oregon highlights that include a different color jersey than they are currently wearing or they mention Aaron Rodgers.

Alright, By-Godders, enjoy some football and drink some beer. We like beer!
