According to Mike Casazza of EerSports.com, the West Virginia Mountaineers will use the final remaining scholarship for the 2018 signing class on Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore linebacker VanDarius Cowan.
Cowan was dismissed from the Tide in June following an arrest for third-degree assault, after he punched another man in the face in a Tuscaloosa bar. Cowan turned himself in to the authorities, and was released for a “violation of team rules” on the day video of the incident was released.
The 6’-4”, 235lb outside linebacker signed with the Tide in 2017, over offers from LSU, Florida State, Miami, and Oregon. He played in seven games as a true freshman, recording two tackles.
Cowan will use his redshirt and sit out the 2018 season for the Mountaineers, due to NCAA transfer rules, and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
