Jevon Carter has been expected to be nothing more than a defensive specialist for the Memphis Grizzlies since his selection in the second round. The team fit his personality and his skillset the best with their Grit’n’Grind mentality. Any offensive production by Carter would be seen as a bonus. Saturday night, the Grizzlies got their summer bonus early.
Carter tallied a summer league personal high of 26 points on 11-of-22 shooting (50%) including 1-of-4 from three point (25%) and 3-of-4 (75%) free throws. Carter also tallied eight rebounds, one less than first round pick Jaren Jackson, Jr, along with six assists, a blocked shot and two Jevon Carter specials, steals.
The win came at the perfect time as Carter is showing his ability to handle a bigger stage. The Jazz were eliminate in Round 2 of the Summer League Playoffs. In the first game of the playoffs for the Grizzlies, Carter showed his ability to be more than just a defensive weapon with 19 points, 8 assists and 8 rebounds.
The Grizzlies will take on the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at 7 PM. Check out highlights from Carter’s first two tournament games below
