West Virginia will now play the winner of the #6 TCU vs #3 Texas Tech after taking down the #2 seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament. The Mountaineers used 13 hits to plate 8 runs. Five OSU errors also helped undue all the good the Cowboys did in the regular season when the Cowboys won the season series 2-1.
In the second inning, First Team All Big 12 infielder Kyle Gray singled before advancing to second when Tyler Doanes was hit. Both runners advanced to third on a balk before Ivan Gonzalez brought both home with a single.
In the fourth inning, the Mountaineers used four consecutive singles to score three more runs pushing the score to 6-0. The Cowboys, however, wouldn’t be shut out as they scored 1 in the 5th inning, two more in the 6th inning and two again in the 7th to make the score 7-5.
West Virginia would widen the gap to the final score of 8-5 when a Cowboys wild pitch would plate Jimmy Galusky.

The bottom of the ninth wasn’t without drama. The Cowboys would eventually load the bases, bringing up the winning run in Neufstitler but a fielder’s choice ended the Cowboys chances.
Tomorrow’s game will be at 7:30 PM.
