- West Virginia and Florida will meet for the ninth time in all-time series play. The two teams last met on Jan. 30, 2016, in Gainesville in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Florida won that game, 88-71. WVU’s last win in the series was on Dec. 3, 2002, a 68-66 victory over the No. 8-ranked Gators in Charleston, W.Va
- Florida assistant Darris Nichols played at WVU from 2005-08, helping WVU to an NCAA Elite Eight, two NCAA Sweet 16s and an NIT championship. He still holds the NCAA record for most games played without fouling out (141).
- This will be WVU’s third appearance in the Jimmy V Classic (68-65 loss to Davidson on Dec. 9, 2008 and a 70-54 loss to Virginia on Dec. 8, 2015). The Mountaineers have won 17 of their last 27 games at Madison Square Garden. WVU is 32-45 all-time at MSG.
- VegasInsider.com currently lists Florida as a 2 point favorite over the Mountaineers, with the over/under set at 143 total points.
