West Virginia finishes the regular season above their preseason rankings

NCAA Football: Oklahoma at West Virginia Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

The final regular season poll is out and the West Virginia Mountaineers stay put in their standings. The Mountaineers find themselves #15 in the AP Poll and #16 in the Coaches Poll. West Virginia started the season #20 in the Coaches Poll and #17 in the AP.

Now, the Mountaineers will wait on their bowl opponent. there appear to be two prevailing thoughts. Either West Virginia will “make up” their cancelled game against NC State in the Camping World Bowl, or the NCAA will allow the first ever 7-on-7 game when WVU takes on Washington State in the Alamo Bowl.

Speaking of the Oklahoma Sooners, they rise to #4 and will play in the College Football Playoffs again after defeating the Texas Longhorns 39-27 in yesterday’s Big 12 Championship Game. Since the Sooners are headed to the #CFP, the Longhorns will play in the Sugar Bowl.

The Iowa St. Cyclones are the fourth Big 12 team ranked, coming in at #25 in the AP Poll.
