The West Virginia Mountaineers used a 42-41 victory over the Texas Longhorns to move up 2 spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll all the way to #8. The Mountaineers find themselves inside the top ten for the second time this season. After the Mountaineers jumped out to a 28-0 first quarter lead against the Texas Tech Red Raiders that resulted in a 42-34 victory in Lubbock, the Mountaineers rose to #8. This time, after surviving in Austin and beating both the Longhorns and some very questionable officiating, the Mountaineers are back at #8.
The LSU Tigers, who failed to score against the Death Star that is Alabama drops to #10. Kentucky, who lost 34-17 to Georgia, stays at #12 in a very curious voting by the coaches.
In the Big 12, four teams are ranked: the Oklahoma Sooners at #6, WVU at 8, Texas at #19 and Iowa State at #25. Iowa State was ranked #24 in the initial college football playoff rankings and should move much higher when the newest poll is released on Tuesday.
