The Smoking Musket Pick ‘Em Gauntlet is an online college pick ‘em game where we will try to pick the winners of the weekly Big 12 contests plus Yahoo! editors’ selected games (usually the games involving the top 25 teams). We do pick against the spread (when available). There are usually 20-30 games to pick each week and each correct pick is worth one point. The winner (excluding Musket staff) will be the person at the end of the regular season who has the most correct picks/points. Points are cumulative, so don’t worry if you happen to miss a week or two. We will award the winner a WVU Nike T-shirt at the conclusion of the games in December.
All participants are subject to the Official Rules as determined by SB Nation.
We actually filled the first group, so we had to open a second league to fit everyone in. The second league will serve solely as an extension of the first league, and is not a standalone league. If you are in the second league, you are still competing with those in the first league.
Our game, as in the past, will be hosted by Yahoo! Fantasy. GAME LINK

We have 26 games to pick this week, starting FRIDAY AT NOON EST. Deadline for each pick is 5 minutes before kickoff.
Here are the leaders after week 12. Congratulations to MNeer2 and BeastMode for winning week 12 with 17 correct picks each (all you win for this is kudos). Also, kudos to Cellyson84 for continuing to hold onto that No. 1 spot.

And now, the predictions!
Nick Shoemaker
I think this game will go down to the wire, much like the Texas game. Will Grier set his own single game passing yards record in the season opener against Tennessee with 429 passing yards, and I predict that he will break that record in the season finale with over 450 passing yards. I predict that WVU wins off of a game winning drive late in the fourth quarter.

I think Dana puts all of his cards on the table and the guys play loose and up to their capabilities. As long as we don’t lose the turnover battle by more than 1, I think we can pull off an old fashioned shoot out at home. This also assumes the chippiness shown by previous WVU teams doesn’t happen.

Pain. Kyle’s Murray. Future first round Oakland Athletic breaks ankles and hearts in Morgantown. Big 12 Championship dreams go down in flames like a zepplin. Saturday has no meaning.

What the hell do we have to lose?

More points: This game, or our basketball game with OU?
West Virginia 70 - Oklahoma 63

This game is on bath salts a la the Tavon Austin game of lore. West Virginia gets a key stop at the end to seal it this time.

How will West Virginia respond after a second half collapse in Stillwater? That’s the million dollar question that has been burning in everyone’s minds since Saturday night.
The inside scoop says the Mountaineers are ready to open up a can on Friday night, and there’s no lingering hangover from the loss to Oklahoma State. If that’s true, West Virginia should be able to put up points on the Sooner defense. This one will get weird fast, but a couple forced turnovers by the DAWGS gives the Mountaineers some breathing room.

It’s hard to imagine we are going to win this game. The resilience of 18-22 year-olds shouldn’t be undervalued. But I still think it’s going to take a special effort along with a game plan that keeps the ball away from Oklahoma for a WVU victory. It’s just not something we’ve done well or very often. But there’s hope.

I’ve picked WVU all year- let’s see if I can shake it up by breaking the trend. OU gave up a million points to Kansas. We should be able to put up 42. I’ll dare the defense to prove me wrong and say that we see Kyler get loose too many times in the fourth quarter and OU gets past the Mountaineers in Morgantown.

I don’t have any faith that this WVU will beat this OU team. Our defense has struggled against mobile QBs all season and Kyler Murray is the most lethal of them all. Expect WVU to run the ball well against OU, but a great effort by the offense will just end in heartbreak.
