The latest college football playoff rankings are out and the West Virginia Mountaineers fell four spots from number 9 to number 13 after their come-from-behind loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater on Saturday. West Virginia is behind the Florida Gators and Penn State Nittany Lions in the latest rankings, despite the fact that both teams having three losses.
Florida, who lost to Kentucky early in the season and Mizzou two weeks ago, along with a loss to then #7 Georgia while Penn State has the heartbreaking loss to Ohio State during the White Out, along with losses to Michigan State and a thumping at the hands of Michigan.
West Virginia will play #6 Oklahoma Sooners and Heisman Trophy hopeful Kyler Murray on Black Friday, at home in Morgantown on Senior Night. The Mountaineers and Sooners are vying for one of two spots in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game. The winner will automatically earn a berth into the CCG and the loser is most likely eliminated, assuming the Kansas Jayhawks don’t send beleagured head coach David Beatty out a winner.
If Texas wins against Kansas, they will play the winner of the Black Friday showdown. Texas beat Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout 48-45 but lost to the Mountaineers 42-41 on a two-point conversion by Will Grier.
