WVU Releases 2019 Mountaineer Baseball Schedule

Can WVU find the postseason again in 2019?

John Lowe

The complete schedule for WVU baseball’s 2019 season was released by the athletic department today. WVU’s 53-game schedule features 22 games at Monongalia County Ballpark, one at PNC Park in Pittsburgh and a game at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston.

WVU’s 2018 campaign ended with a 7-3 loss to TCU in the Big 12 Championship and did not feature an NCAA tournament appearance.

WVU will begin 2019 with a trip to Georgia to play at Kennessaw State (Friday, Feb. 15), Georgia State (Saturday, Feb. 16), Georgia Tech (Sunday, Feb. 17) and Georgia Southern (Feb. 22-24).

If the Mountaineers wish to make the 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, it will need to perform well against the eight teams who featured in the tournament in 2018, including reigning national champions Oregon State. WVU will travel to Corvallis, Oregon, March 1-3, to battle the Beavers.

The first home series of the year will be March 8-10, as the Mountaineers host Kent State.

WVU opens Big 12 play with a series at Baylor March 22-24. Then, the Mountaineers will return to the Mountain State to play Marshall on Wednesday, March 27, in Charleston.

The Mountaineers’ first home Big 12 series will be March 29-31, as WVU will host Oklahoma in Morgantown.

Here are the rest of WVU’s home conference series:

  • April 12-14, Texas Tech
  • April 19-20, Kansas
  • May 3-5, TCU
  • May 10-12, Kansas State

The Backyard Brawl will renew the baseball series of the rivalry on Wednesday, April 3, in Morgantown. The teams will play gain on Tuesday, May 14, at the Pittsburgh Pirates’ PNC Park. This is the third year in a row the Mountaineers have played in the MLB stadium.

Other notable non-conference meetings include:

  • April 10 at Maryland
  • April 17 at Penn State
  • April 23 vs. Penn State
  • April 30 vs. Marshall
  • May 8 at Virginia Tech

WVU will conclude its 2019 regular season with a three-game series against George Washington, May 16-18, in Morgantown.

The Big 12 Baseball Championship tournament is scheduled for May 22-28, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, in Oklahoma City.
