Heisman Is Tua’s But Grier And Murray Are Having Heisman-Worthy Seasons

Its Tua, then everyone else but that doesn’t diminish the season Grier and Murray are having

Tua Tagovailoa

The Alabama Crimson Tide did what they’ve done all season and scored quickly in the game, producing two touchdown drives on their first two possessions. After that, the offense regressed. Tua threw his second interception of the season and produced a second outing where he failed to break 200 yards. The first game, against Louisiana Tech, was completely understandable given he played only the first quarter and only threw 8 passes. This game, Tua struggled. For now the Heisman trophy remains his to lose, but a couple more outings like this and it could be possible.

Season Stats: 146/215 (67.9%) 2,525 yards, 26 TD, 2 INT, 148 yards rushing, 3 TD

Kyler Murray

It is a shame that Tua has been so otherworldly this season because otherwise Murray would likely be the Heisman front-runner. Murray played a phenomenal game in Bedlam against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Murray broke the 3,000 yard barrier on the season in this game after producing 349 yards on 21 of 29 passing. He added 66 yards on the ground to break the 600 yard mark.

Season Stats: 175/247 (70.8%) 3,038 yards, 32 touchdowns, 5 Int, 96 rushes, 640 yards, 7 touchdowns

Will Grier

Grier and the West Virginia offense broke out in a big way in the second quarter and poured on the points. Grier finished the day with another 300+ yards (349), another 3+ touchdowns (3) as he continues to climb up the West Virginia career ranks. Grier is looking the part of the season passer who is in complete control of his offense and his team.

On the season, despite playing one fewer game, Grier is almost at 3,000 yards and has now broken 30 passing touchdowns.

Season Stats: 207/300 (69%), 2,961 yards, 31 touchdowns, 8 interceptions.

Gardner Minshew

I’m not convinced that Minshew will get invited to New York but he continues to win and his stats, thanks to the Mike Leach phenomenon, is one of the leaders in the country. Minshew has never thrown for less 319 yards. Like Will Grier, he has thrown at least 3 touchdowns in a game multiple times this year. As long as Washington State keeps winning, Minsehew could have his name mentioned with other Heisman caliber.

Season Stats: 364/523 ( 69.5%) 3,852 yards, 29 TD.
